Kubojitsu is modern self-defense art categorized in the MMA group (mixed martial arts).
Kubojitsu combines punching, sweeping and kicking techniques of martial arts like karate, kickboxing and European boxing with throwing techniques, takedowns, wrestling holds and jiu-jitsu. The combat takes place in every phase: stand-up, clinch and ground. Many finishing holds originate from type of wrestling known in the USA as catch wrestling or catch-as-catch-can. Self-defense situations show that joint locks, choke holds and ground figjting is often more effective than striking. Freefight is continued to complete submission of the opponent. As in many other modern grappling arts we train in traditional gi as well as in casual clothes.
The name originates from two words: the surname of its founder - Kubota and jiu-jitsu. Grandmaster Takayuki Kubota created the self-defense art which is a peak of his seventy year experience in karate, judo, aikido, professional wrestling and law enforcement training.
